Boght Fire District - Upgraded Facility Design

The Boght Fire District recognized the need to re-evaluate its existing facility to better serve the current and future needs of the community. With new development and evolving apparatus and training requirements, the use of their essential facility requires modernization.

C.T. Male began with a detailed evaluation of the three structures comprising the existing facility. Based on the assessment, our firm provided the Fire District with a design for a modern and efficient essential services facility to replace the existing fire station, administrative building, and fire hall. The new design also incorporated the replacement of the Town of Colonie ambulance substation.

Located in the Canterbury Crossing Planned Development District, the new shared services Fire Department / EMS Facility spans 27,000 square feet. It includes apparatus bays for both fire and EMS vehicles, radio rooms with visual oversight of the station’s approach, laundry/decontamination space, workout and locker rooms, standby facilities, administrative offices, conference spaces, and a community hall with a full-service kitchen to meet the essential services needs of the community.

In addition to its energy efficient design, the project benefited from recommendations based on a Technical Assistance Study supporting the New Construction Program. These recommendations enabled the pursuit of incentives through the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The TA modeled both baseline and design buildings using a building energy simulation program to predict energy consumption and demand. Overall, this helped to determine the incentive level for the entire facility.
