Shawangunk Reservoir Dams
Emergency Action Plans, Engineering
Assessments & Rehabilitation
C.T. Male has been working with the City of Middletown on its dam safety compliance program for seven of its water supply dams since 2010. Since that date, C.T. Male has prepared Engineering Assessments for the dams, Emergency Action Plans in the Event of Dam Failure, Inspection and Maintenance Plans and two separate capital projects to repair/replace four of the dams to meet current NYSDEC requirements.
C.T. Male was contracted to prepare bid documents for upgrades to three dams on the Shawangunk Reservoir- Lamson Dike (Class “B”), Woodward Dam (Class “C”) and Greenleaf Dike (Class “C”) and for upgrades to Kinch Dam (Class “A”). For the Shawangunk Reservoir dams, the work includes raising the embankment of all three structures 1-2 feet to limit overtopping during the spillway design flood, extension of the concrete core walls, re-grading of downstream embankment slopes to address slope stability issues, installation of underdrains and toe drains to improve drainage around the toe of the dams, replacement of existing reservoir drains and water system supply lines and re-grading of the spillway for Woodward Dam. For Kinch Dam, the work includes re-appointing of the concrete spillway, raising of the embankment to limit overtopping during the spillway design flood and upgrades to the water supply lines.
